I was approached by Decathlon Netherlands to create a supporting animation for their privacy policy update. Due to new regulations in 2021, Decathlon had to send out an email to its current subscribers asking them to stay subscribed and update their preferences.
The brief was simple because of this: Keep the current users subscribed by explaining the benefits of staying connected with Decathlon. The choice was made to create an animation explaining the benefits. The focus of this video was not Decathlon but the 'you' persona.
The video, in Dutch.
The video has a clear focus from a design point of view: The voice over is always the star of the show, giving all the important information. The animation plays a supporting role. It only serves to enhance the VO's story and never steal the spotlight from the information being given, only to enhance it.
With the animation serving the purpose as an enhancer, the design only works with high contrast Decathlon colors and the use of typography. There are no full color product shots, gradients or other visual flair that can be a part of the usual Decathlon communication. Objects like sliders, that are part of the regular animation do return, but in higher contrasts and sripped of things like gradients so the focus stays on the VO and typography.
