How can you create a design system that has the potential to last a long time, supporting a variety of sitcoms, even those with dated photography and key art?
This was the main question that led the design of Comedy Central Netherlands' sitcom scheduling framework. With the shape based on the classic 4:3 ratio television screen a system was created that allowed for photography and key art to work together with fresh and welcoming colors, creating an easily recognisable design, supporting any kind of supplied photography or key art.
Sitcoms are not just all about laughs, but memorable moments
The grid is adaptable to all kinds of media outlets, by either zooming in or changing the screens from horizontal to vertical.
TV Application
During the sitcom programming, the endboards and visuals also feature the same visual language, with a constantly switching color scheme allowing for variety.
Meant to be broken
The grid is also able to adapt to a show if it has a distinct characteristic that can be played with, whether it's a throwback to the handmade look and feel of South Park or screen-breaking Ghosts jumping out of their constraints.
